Jesus Saves Me, Little Seed: A Life, and Close as Breath by Callie Grant (Graham Blanchard book reviews)

I have reviewed a few Graham Blanchard books by Callie Grant before so I figured I would like these new books as well. "Jesus Saves Me," "Little Seed: A Life," and "Close as Breath" will be available February 1, 2014 so this little sneak peek is perfect for you to consider including these books in an Easter basket or an anytime gift. From the information sent to me: " Jesus Saves Me ," from the Knowing My God series, is a learn book, which features photography paired with John 10:14-16, Jesus’ own words to a child’s life. The book’s main theme, Jesus as the Good Shepherd, is a simple and engaging introduction to the Lord’s mission on Earth and the reason for Easter Celebration. " Close As a Breath ," an absorb book, captures a young girl’s magical fall day out with her dad. Along the way, she peppers her father with questions about the natural world and ultimately about God. Graham Blanchard calls such questions “golden moments...

Audrey Bunny by Angie Smith (children's book review)

Image
Last year, I had the privilege to hear Angie Smith speak at a Women of Faith conference. I am a fan from her red hair to the wise words given to her to share from the Lord. I first heard of Angie during the time prior to their daughter, Audrey's birth. I cried in their grief and rejoiced at their blessings. I loved reading Angie's book, " Mended ." I was overjoyed to be able to read " Audrey Bunny ." I really enjoyed the illustrations in "Audrey Bunny" by Breezy Brookshire that accompany this story. I really enjoy the moral of this story = that you will be loved by somebody even with your imperfections.  I even loved that the story was told in the person of the bunny who wants to be loved but has an imperfection. via Amazon I did enjoy this book from the bunny to the little girl who loved her. I love that the bunny is named Audrey after their daughter. I don't know how much of this story is true or not (Caroline is another Smith daught...

Deadrise by Robert Blake Whitehill

Image
I'm on a reading streak lately, if you haven't noticed. My newest finish is Deadrise by Robert Blake Whitehill. I'm not generally a reader of a thriller like this, but I'm glad I finished it. Besides some unsavory language and sexual content, the characters in this book were well-rounded. They were believable - you could believe in a person like Ben Blackshaw and Maynard Chalk (even as disgusting as he is). Whitehill really developed each character in this book so they weren't so out there (even though some of the personalities were out there) that you couldn't believe in them. I appreciate the thought that went in to each person, major and minor. The writing is great in this book except for a few excerpts, mostly the ones about Maynard Chalk and his business relationship with a senator. Those really were ones that I skimmed over because I didn't feel they were really important to the ongoing plot, and yet you couldn't have left them out because ...

Mended by Angie Smith (book review)

Image
I had the privilege of hearing Angie Smith speak at the Women of Faith conference I volunteered at in November. She is an author of several books (including this one, Mended , of course) and speaker and mother and wife of Todd Smith (lead singer of Selah ). And I tell you, she seems like she could be my next BFF. She's very sincere and just seems like someone you could chat with forever over a cup of coffee. Although the closest I got was getting her autograph. picture from Angie's website But Angie write how she speaks, very level, very real. Mended is set up like a devotional, but I don't necessarily think you must read it like that. Although there is some deep stuff in there, so I like to take it bits at a time. I'm taking my phrase for 2013 from one of the entries in this book: one better . God spoke to Angie one day to tell her that she didn't need to be superwoman but just could go one better. Are you folding laundry? Do one better and put it away. Ar...
