Prayers for Every Occasion by Ellen Banks Elwell

Image
Prayer is something I've been working on for years. I didn't grow up praying so it's been difficult to know what to say and when to do it. I find this is not exclusive to me because my children pray just fine at meal times but struggle when they need to confess or ask for God's help.  I thought Prayers for Every Occasion by Ellen Banks Elwell would be nice to open and read through to find an already written prayer for some occasions.  The books itself is separated into four parts: prayers for specific occasions, prayers from the Bible, hymns that can be prayers, and traditional prayers.  image via Amazon.com The prayers for specific occasions are written by the author. You can tell she wrote them for individuals in her own life rather than specifically for this book. An example is the prayer for an expectant mother. In this prayer, Elwell mentions that the mother has been struggling it's getting pregnant. That's a very specific prayer but would

However, I had forgotten that I had a LifeWay gift card to give to one of you! So I'm asking for a do-over! GIVEWAY! I have one (1) LifeWay gift card to giveaway to one of you (value $25). TO ENTER: - Leave a valid email address in your comment. No email address, no winning. Just makes my life easier. - In your comment, also tell me your favorite children's book-turned-movie. And is the movie better than the book? Rare, but it happens. That's it. Easy peasy. This gift card would be very helpful to purchase Easter gifts or to give as an Easter gift or to gift to yourself! A Wrinkle in Time & other books-turned-movies

I've been a bookworm as long as I can remember. I've also loved movies as long as I can remember. I have passed down an enjoyment of both mediums to my children. I particularly like children's books that have been turned into movies, but only if they are well-made! I'm not sure which would be my number one choice, so I'll give you some insight into movies I have enjoyed with my children (particularly my older boys - 8 & 10 because they just have seen more movies and read more books than my 2yo daughter). There are many stories turned into movies that are beloved by myself and my children - Beauty and the Beast (animated and not), Cinderella (animated), um... really, most Disney movies (at least older ones). But one book/animated movie that I just hold dear is Charlotte's Web by E.B. White . This is a wonderful tale of friendship, bravery, and the difference words can make. As a self-proclaimed word nerd, that last part is truly important to me. I remembe

The Pope and a Roman Holiday Contest!

I am not Catholic nor was I raised so, but I've been studying church history off and on for a few years now. It's amazing what the Catholic church was able to do for missions and God's kingdom while the Protestant movement was beginning and not focused on missions for 200+ years (yikes). Much of that is to the credit of the Pope. CNN has a new series titled  POPE: The Most Powerful Man in History  that explores the truth about the one world leader who is neither politician nor general – but commands the attention of both. For more than 2000 years, the head of the Roman Catholic Church has wielded unimaginable influence – shaping the world and our daily lives in surprising ways. Now, combining never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and dramatic recreations, this upcoming six-part television series focuses on the men who have held this unique and complicated position, and reveals the unexpected true stories from the Vatican’s past.   The series also delves into the
