looking ahead to 2015

My friend, Evi, is a much better writer than I. She set up a gratitude challenge around Thanksgiving to get all of us to really think about what we're grateful for - and to be grateful! She had some questions on her blog to help us reflect on this past year and look ahead to 2015. 1. Looking back, what (and who) am I grateful for this year? Of course, I'm grateful for my family. My incredible husband who has taken care of us and put forth even more effort while I've been dealing with nausea, vomiting, and lethargy with this pregnancy. My children who are driving me crazy today (can it warm up so they can run off some energy?) but who also drive me crazy with their love and sweet cuddles. I LOVE these kids. I am grateful, too, for this budding child inside my belly. July can't get here soon enough! What I'm thankful for could be any sort of material thing. I have so many things I'm thankful to have, but they are just things. I am really thankful for the ...

2014

Whoa - another new year. They come by fast, right? Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this. I enjoyed this "boring" 2014 with no new really anything. However, I am always excited by the prospect of a new year. I love the adventure of "new," and sometimes "unknown" (this is a little scarier). My greatest emotion right now is peace - supernatural God-filled peace. Peace that He is here, was here yesterday, will be here tomorrow. That He softens hearts and changes character flaws. That He loves me and that doesn't depend on how I act from one second to another. That my children are loved dearly by their heavenly Father (and earthly one) and that salvation is from Him, not me. That God does not love me based upon my weight, hair color, jean size, shoe size, fashion sense, domestic skills. This year my goals are simple: - rest in His love and grace - show His love and grace (to myself and to others) - be in constant contact with my Father (p...

It's that time of the year again....resolutions

Image
I love making resolutions and goals. You can do it any time, of course, but I really like the New Year's Resolutions. A fresh start. I can't remember what I resolved to do last year (I'm not sure if that's good or bad), but here are my goals and resolutions for 2013: - write more letters (while organizing I came across letters and cards. I want that again. Nothing like snail mail.) - have unintentional Facebook time once a week. Other times on there must be specific, get on and get off. - run 26.2 consecutive miles (in May) - take 1 walk (at least) per week with my boys (weather permitting) - 1,000 blessings joy dare from Ann Voskamp That's really it. I want to improve my prayer life but I don't have a specific goal for that. I also want to read more books, but, again, there is no specific goal. I'd like to lose that weight hanging on from LAST Christmas, but no real specified goal (other than the 26.2 training). What about you? Any goals th...

2012

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you rang in the new year better than our little Squirt did here. Let's just say too much junk food, bounce house, and staying up too late resulted in many changing of the sheets (and destroying of our bounce house). Big A is ever the best husband and daddy in the world - now snoozing in a twin bed with our little puker. I'll be sharing my king-sized with Moose here shortly. 2011 was a great year for us and I wanted to share some of our highlights (no particular order). 1. Moving to Kansas & closer to friends. 2. Moose being diagnosed with autism. 3. Moose starting pre-school. 4. Getting involved in our church: women's ministry president & Big A's Sunday school class. 5. Running 640 miles (including elliptical & walking = 667). 6. Beating Big A in two half marathons. :) 7. Meeting former Biggest Loser contestants. 8. Being so motivated by so many other people who have asked me (me?) about getting started toward fitnes...

looking ahead to 2012

I signed up for my first half of 2012!! Lincoln National Guard Marathon and Half Marathon - 2012 : Half Marathon : early registration You have successfully registered at GetMeRegistered.com. I'm psyched to run this race! I tried to register last year but it filled up fast (Registration close at 10,000 entrants, with up to 8,000 entrants accepted in the half marathon.). We used to live in Lincoln so I'm excited to run there with the added bonus of finishing on Memorial Stadium (go Huskers!!). So excited!! Want to enter? Register here .

2010 rewind, 2011 fast forward

I was going back over my 2010 Biggest Loser calendar where I tracked all of my mileage and exercise time. In total (approximate total), I ran 475.2 miles last year and exercised a total of 147 hours and 20 minutes. Perhaps that may not be as much as some serious runners or work-out-aholics BUT that's amazing for me!! Now on to 2011. I have another half-marathon in mind for May. Who knows what other races will come my way. I'd like to do more of my exercise DVDs but keep up with my running. I noticed a rapid decline in my hours exercised once I started putting in more miles - so really I just worked out less and ran more. And I really do like the cross training it provides - AND I have a friend who wants to do some with me once or twice a week, so that will be a lot of fun. I'd really like to find a running partner this next year since I can't really run with my husband (often). For concrete goals: I'd like to shoot for 500-600 miles and at least 150-200 hours of...

Happy New Year

Image
We spent our New Year's Eve with some good ol' friends from college. We ate a lot of yummy food, held a ping pong tournament, stayed warm (while some braved the cold and snow outside to play), caught up, and ended the evening playing Wheel of Fortune. It was a grand time and a very much needed time with friends, none of whom we see often enough. Moose made it until we left at 1:20am, then crashed on the way home (what a trooper). I couldn't have thought of a better way to ring in the new year... I'm trying to revamp my blog a little and organize it (somehow). You may not notice many changes, but in my head there will be a few. Stay awhile and look around...
