Monday Meanderings: Thursday version

Yes, I realize it's Thursday and this is Monday Meanderings. However, I'm feeling less than organized today and need some help figuring out what NEEDS to get done this week.     Bible Study... I need to finish up notes on Mission of Motherhood, but I'm actually done with the book itself. I started going to a Bible study-thing with my friends Jackie and Melanie this Wednesday. They basically meet and talk about a book (that I don't have) or just talk. Memory Verse... Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - we're trying to teach Moose memory verses (yes, I know I tried this awhile back...try and try again). Husband Encouragement... I honestly have nothing for this right now. Maybe get dishes done so he doesn't have to (he has a few times in this past week). Train Them Up... Focus on using Moose's big boy voice and listening to me. Personal Goals... I am running tonight and Saturday yet (already worked out...

Monday Meanderings: Valentine's Day 2011

Bible Study... I'm going through Mission of Motherhood with my friend Sarah right now, and I'm loving it!  I love the book, I love sharing it with Sarah, I love learning more about being the parent God wants me to be. Memory Verse... A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1 Husband Encouragement...   ♥ No complaining ♥ No yelling when we argue ♥ Have supper (mostly) made when he gets home & I head to the gym ♥  Made him some heart hand-prints for his desk at work from the kids & me Train Them Up...   * Be intentional and pay attention. I'm always telling Moose to focus and pay attention but I don't often. I don't know what they're doing in the other room, so get off my tush and go see, go explore with them. Personal Goals...   * Not skip my runs this week. Last week was awful for that. New Habit of the Month... Breakfast Devotional with the kids (separately since they eat breakfast at different time...

Bible Study... I'm reading two devotionals. Unto the Hills by Billy Graham and Voices of the Faithful compiled by Beth Moore (review coming soon). Memory Verse... I get these daily emails from KLOVE with a verse. This one really spoke to me the other day in the midst of organizing and weeding through all of this autism junk.  "The Lord will work out his plans for my life - for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me." - Psalm 138:8, NLT The Lord is so faithful to me. Even when I'm overwhelmed and stressed out, when I come to my senses, I know that he will bear that struggle for me. He has his own plans for my life and I merely need to be faithful to him. That's not to say that I don't have work to do, but the worry and stress are taken from me. He asks to bear that weight for me. How blessed I am. Husband Encouragement... I want to finish packing for us this week so he doesn't have to when he gets home. I ...

Bible Study... Right now I'm reading "Unstuff" for a review. It's about how we let stuff overcome our relationship with God and His Plans for us. Memory Verse... our church verse for the month is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."  So important for us to remember to always be joyful - not superficially but have that joy that only Christ can bring; for us to pray continually - I'm still learning exactly how to do this but I am encouraged at how often prayers have been on my lips and mind these past few days; and give thanks in all circumstances - too often our circumstances have us down but even in our downtrodden moments, we can give thanks for the salvation that we can find (or have found) through Christ. He helps us through all things; he carries us when things are hard.  I would like to get a lot better at actual memorizing verses. I don...

Monday Meanderings (11/22/10)

Bible Study... I've been reading "A Year with God" at night but need to do more actual Bible reading. This book is good but not very deep. I'd like something deeper. Memory Verse... Ephesians 6:4 "Do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." **taking this from Sarah last week - I really need to focus on this verse ** Husband Encouragement... *think of a good Christmas gift for him (so far reflective running gear & shoe ID) *encourage him to run when he's sitting on the fence over whether to work out or not at certain times *set up a meeting for us and a realtor so we can start looking at houses (done last Friday - flop. Need to look at not-so-cheap houses) Train Them Up... *Think of more crafts to do with Moose. Preferably 3 per week. SO excited about this Christmas Advent Activity Calendar I'm going to do for Moose. I also hope to come up with something for Squirt to do while ...

Bible Study: I've been reading through Genesis in a kids' Bible and the grown-up Bible. I do need to find a good study though but really would love to do something as a group. Memory Verse: I need to get back into this. Galatians 6:9 is definitely holding true though. If you follow me on Twitter, you know I tweaked it a bit for potty training. Husband Encouragement: I would like to set up a date night for us. Not sure when, though. Maybe Friday night depending on when my mom gets here for the weekend. I also need to make an awesome supper tomorrow to make up for overcooking (and thus killing) tonight's meal. LOL I felt so bad. Train 'Em Up: Moose has gone 3 days without an accident on the potty! I'm so proud of him! I just want to keep that up and get him more comfortable going #2 on the potty. Squirt has probably been off my radar this past week with potty training, so I need to just focus on him. Reading him books, spending time specifically with him...

Bible Study... I need to finish reading this book about the King James Bible (review soon), but that's not really a Bible study, more history. I have been reading about a chapter of the Bible to my kids each day to go along with Moose's new picture Bible that he got in Sunday School. Memory Verse... Focusing on the Fruits of the Spirit - especially PATIENCE Husband Encouragement... I'm potty training (again) so he doesn't have to. Hopefully he'll cut me some slack because this is HARD. Train Them Up... Potty training Moose (what is this, the 3rd time?). Squirt needs to be utilizing time outs because his baby fits are too much. Personal Goals... I'm reading New Moon (yes, re-reading the Twilight series) but I need to stop reading them at night. Then I can't sleep because my mind is wandering. I also need to get all 4 runs in this week. I ate horribly at my parents' this weekend and need to keep trucking to my goal weight. New Habit of the...

Bible Study... The Mockingbird Parables (review soon) Memory Verse...   Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands." Husband Encouragement... * be a listening ear when he gets home from his first day on the job * encourage him while he is learning new things at work * encourage him to keep up with running these next few weeks until the half-marathon Train Them Up... * 10 minutes of mat time daily for Moose * Speech therapy for Moose * Read 3 books (at least) a day to each boy * Use time outs as necessary for Squirt (and Moose) Personal Goals... * Run 4x this week (including a 5 mile fun run this weekend) * Straighten my hair once this week * Read my Bible daily New Habit of the Month...   Do dishes after lunch time MUST Do...   * library meeting tonight * write a blog review over hero cape * decide on Halloween costume for Big A so we can start looking for items...

Bible Study... I'm continuing in reading "Praying the Scriptures for your Children" by Jodie Berndt. I finally got done reading another book so I'm going to solely focus on this one. Memory Verse... 1 Corinthians 10:13 "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure." Husband Encouragement... 1. Be supportive listening to possible job prospects. 2. Help him spiff up his resume and fill out applications, if possible. 3. Don't worry about the future. I know he is concerned with me in this process so worrying doesn't help either of us. Train Them Up... 1. Tuesday is our first speech therapy with Moose. 2. Continue to work on setting limits with Squirt (don't touch movies, get down from the tv, sit down to drink). 3. Work with Moose on dressing and undressing ...

I'm reading through Praying the Scriptures For Your Children by Jodie Berndt (VERY good book) & I'm also reading Instructions to Wives, Mothers, and Their Husbands by Gil Rugh (I'm not sure at this point I would recommend it) Memory Verse... James 3:1-12 Our youth pastor (and friend) at church preached a sermon based on this on Sunday. It was so good to hear and very humbling as I struggled with this a few days this weekend especially. Husband Encouragement... I would like to NOT argue with Big A all this week; I did enough unnecessary yelling this weekend (understand why Sundays sermon was good for me to hear?). - make him some good meals this week - help him make his lunch nightly - make sure he does not unnecessarily snack Train Them Up...   - patience patience patience - start using time outs with Squirt - < 2 hours/day for Moose  - speech pathologist visit on Th...

Bible Study: I have nothing going on right now for a Bible Study. I need to start reading 2 Corinthians though. I just finished "I Am Hutterite" by Mary-Ann Kirkby (review soon). Memory Verse: Phil. 2:14 'Do everything without complaining or arguing.' I need to learn this as well as my children. I have a song from VBS many years ago that goes along with it. Husband Encouragement: I need to keep my mouth shut.  For instance, I really hate my hair. Really, really hate it. It's changed since I got pregnant and I don't know what to do with it. It's not curly or straight and it's not pretty when I leave it down. It's frizzy (even with frizz control stuff). So I put it up in a ponytail. Well, my hair doesn't all fit in a pony tail so I have to have a little pouf up top - I'm sick of it. Over my little sister's graduation, my older sister let me use her flat iron - omg it was amazing. Unfortunately, it's also around $200 (not that ...

Bible Study It's not a Bible study but I think it's applicable to my marriage. I'm reading "The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands" by Dr. Laura. Really good so far. Memory Verse Phil 2:14 Do everything without complaining or arguing. Definitely a good reminder for myself AND my kids. :D Husband Encouragement * don't complain about him working extra hours. I know it's good for us. * be thankful that he's willing to work another part-time job (sort of) for us. Train Them Up * Moose - getting him to NOT yell (which means watching myself, too) & potty training next week!! * Squirt - working on him with signs (more, eat, drink) and saying something (mama, dada, whatever) Personal Goals * figure out something fun to do with Moose while Squirt naps (finger painting, playdoh, coloring) * read my book instead of blogs! * run and on my "off" days, do yoga MUST Do * figure out when my boys' birthday parties will be ...

Monday Meanderings

Bible Study - finish "Plan B" by Pete Wilson & I am going to look up something to better help me understand the second to last chapter in 1 Corinthians. I've read it twice and I can't seem to grasp it all. Memory Verse - (Sarah you always pick good verses) Ephesians 5:15-17 "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." Husband Encouragement - Big A is picking up some extra work with a local farmer so making sure the house is clean and meals are prepared. Also not being grumpy when he gets home, but letting him have some "breaths" when he walks in the door before I throw the baby and/or toddler at him. Train Them Up - Moose: I need to start looking at an on-line curriculum for preschool for next year since we are not sending him to school. I don't really want to purchase anyt...

Monday Meanderings

Bible Study - I'm reading Plan B by Pete Wilson for Book Sneeze. It's a really great book so far (review coming soon). Memory Verse - I don't know if I have a memory verse for the week. I'm not good at memory verses, to be honest. I am just getting back into reading my Bible so I'll just go for that this week. Husband Encouragement * not beg him to change every dirty diaper when he's home * go on at least one family walk or jog together * let him have a shower by himself at least once this week Train Them Up * Start thinking about preschool stuff for Moose. I don't know how far I'm going to get in this homeschooling business, but I have at least next year to work with Tristan. * Keep trying to get Squirt to say "mama." haha * Find more signs for Moose to learn; keep using the signs I know for him and Squirt to learn. * Print off Blue's Clues thing from nickjr.com so I can play it with Moose Personal Goals * Complete trai...

Join my friend Sarah at In Light of the Truth with your own Monday Meanderings. Bible Study I'm starting to read Plan B for Book Sneeze Memory Verse 1 Timothy 6:6 "But godliness with contentment is great gain." {I don't have one picked out so I'll steal Sarah's} Husband Encouragement *Not to whine about what I don't have {I had a little clothes tantrum before church on Sunday} *To have the dishes done before he gets home from work.  Train Them Up *Leaving my blog & Facebook for naptimes. *Teach Moose 2 new songs (Mary Had a Little Lamb & This Little Light of Mine). *Begin to teach Squirt baby signs (more, eat, drink, all done) and how to wave & clap. *Moose's final meeting for his speech evaluation is Wednesday (and we haven't even met with the elementary teacher so I'm hoping today or Tuesday she'll make an appearance) Personal Goals *go shopping for clothes this week *track mileage when running to ...

Monday Meanderings

Join my friend Sarah at In the Light of the Truth in her Monday Meanderings (go wish her a happy birthday tomorrow, too) Bible Study Still working on The Chronicles of Narnia with the boys. Memory Verse Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize . 1 Corinthians 9:24 Husband Encouragement I'm not sure. I think I just need to work on a positive attitude. I was a grump this weekend. Train Them Up * Encourage Isaac in sitting up on his own and crawling. Ok the encouragement on crawling comes off sometimes as teasing (here come get this piece of food you can't have anyway...or this toy I know you want but you can't play with because it's hazardous)...but he crawls now. * Be patient with Tristan as he's getting better with asking questions and answering them. * Try to tell or show Tristan the difference between "wet" and "poop" * Start on this cute butterfly chandelier . Bible Study Does reading the Chronicles of Narnia with my kids count if we're using a biblical guide to them alongside? Because that's what we're doing here. Memory Verse Husband Encouragement cooking dinner every night not throwing the kids at him as soon as he walks in the door writing him at least one little love note to stick in his pocket so he finds it at work Train Them Up the Chronicles of Narnia readings with them trying to keep my patience with them when they are crying for no reason (Squirt) and when I can't understand the words coming out of their mouths (Moose) not yelling at them (in my effort to keep it real here on the blog, I admit I do this. I always feel remorse and guilty but I know I'm not the only one & I am desperately trying) be consistent with time-outs and discipline Personal Goals Enjoy this nice weather I hear we're supposed to be having Running outside at least once this week to enjoy said weather Aerobics!
