reading the Bible (+ a tv trailer)

A friend once said to me that she just wanted to "love her husband, not yell at her kids, and not lose her mind." Can I get a big "amen" to that?! Isn't that the truth? I've discovered over the past decade and more that the Bible really can help us in all of those areas! I'm learning to read my Bible - not just read it but understand it, apply it to my life! She has helped me dig deep, ask questions, cross reference between passages, look at the historical background. Who, what, when, where, why? And I want others to know this ability to read and understand the Bible can happen without a seminary degree! Theology is for everyone! Even me! I wanted to share some passages that have been meaningful to me the past few years. I don't have a "life verse" but this one may be pretty close, " But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content" (1 Timothy 6:8). I have a pretty envious streak and this reminds me that the Lor...

"It Takes a Church" with Natalie Grant premieres tonight on GSN

I don't watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. I've seen a few episodes but nothing beyond that. Dating games aren't really my cup of tea. Nothing wrong if they are, but it seems to cause a lot of controversy and upset. "It Takes a Church" is different. There is still a single wanting a relationship. There are still others lining up (or being lined up by a matchmaker) to get to know this single. There are still eliminations. However, there aren't steamy love scenes. There isn't a rose ceremony. There's no pressure of engagement or marriage. This new show, premiering tonight on the Game Show Network and starring Grammy-nominated Christian artist, Natalie Grant, has a single in a church community who gets matched up to other singles in their church. The congregation narrows it down to 4 hopefuls. Then they get to know each other and get some counseling from the Pastor of the church. It's an interesting concept, but church is probably the best pl...

Church Rescue - National Geographic Channel (TV show review & GIVEAWAY)

I've had such a wonderful response to my last post, I almost feel badly typing a review about something as trivial as a tv show, but Church Rescue premieres tonight (November 11 10PM EPT) on the National Geographic Channel. Following the awesome ratings of The Bible miniseries and Duck Dynasty, faith-filled shows seem to be popping up or in the works. Church Rescue follows the Church Hoppers group that goes to help churches "become an effective tool in the community" (quoting from a flyer I received). While I disagree with the terminology of this (I don't believe churches are a "tool" but a place for corporate worship of the Lord), I agree that sometimes churches need a little help when the finances aren't there to have a really nice church building (like the one I enjoy where we live) or an effective sermon (where one tends to blab on without actually making a point), or other situations I'm not aware of! "In 2012, Reuters reported that bank...

my new love

Move over Brad Pitt (you and your scraggly beard). Sorry Edward Cullen (NOT Robert Pattinson, I never climbed on board that boat). So long JTT (oh yeah Jonathan Taylor Thomas....I remember you from 5th grade). Here is the new love of my Hollywood fantasies. I love Glee - more importantly, Finn. I love a man who can do a mean Morrison! You had me at Hello!

firsts all around

first smiles first haircuts and the world premiere of...Moose, the Science Kid (please excuse the singing...I know it's hard on the ears)! I was also pleasantly surprised to step on the scale today after a Yoga workout with Bob . I have to check again but I'm pretty sure it says I've lost 2 pounds SINCE SUNDAY! I'll update you on that soon. And I'll tell ya that yoga was hard work, especially with Moose freaking out. If I do anything seen on tv, he tries to stop me by pulling on my shirt or pulling me (which is hard when you're trying to do yoga which involves a lot of balance). It was good, though, and I worked through him until he started to crawl under me during downward dog (so funny). Also, check out my WHRRL slideshow on the sidebar or HERE . Want to go to SITScation?
