The Pope and a Roman Holiday Contest!

Image
I am not Catholic nor was I raised so, but I've been studying church history off and on for a few years now. It's amazing what the Catholic church was able to do for missions and God's kingdom while the Protestant movement was beginning and not focused on missions for 200+ years (yikes). Much of that is to the credit of the Pope. CNN has a new series titled  POPE: The Most Powerful Man in History  that explores the truth about the one world leader who is neither politician nor general – but commands the attention of both. For more than 2000 years, the head of the Roman Catholic Church has wielded unimaginable influence – shaping the world and our daily lives in surprising ways. Now, combining never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and dramatic recreations, this upcoming six-part television series focuses on the men who have held this unique and complicated position, and reveals the unexpected true stories from the Vatican’s past.   The series also delves into th...

my husband rocks

Image
Darlene from Time-Warp Wife (and co-author of ReShaping It All) is hosting a contest: My Husband Rocks. Well, Big A is just that. He's my husband. He rocks. I'll share why. Top 10 Reasons Big A is the Rockingest Husband 1. He LOVINGLY persuaded me to run. How many guys can tell you in a loving manner to start running? 2. He's the hardest working husband. Whether it's building fence, changing diapers, being a human jungle gym, running 13.1 miles, lifting millions of pounds of weights (ok maybe not THAT much but a lot), doing schematics, mowing the lawn, leading Sunday School class at the last minute, leaving for Indiana with 30 minutes' notice for work, playing slowpitch softball - whatever. Big A does it with all of his heart and all of his soul. Every time. 3. He is the fun parent - and I'm glad to let him be that way. I don't like being a human jungle gym. I greatly dislike when our 1-year-old bounces up and down on my stomach. Big A gladly lets hi...

I am SO bored of my menus.  Spaghetti Tater tot casserole Lasagna Baked chicken (spiced, marinated, or plain) Burgers (ok, I never tire of burgers but we can't eat them nightly) Enchiladas (healthy or otherwise) Hamburger Helper (yeah, we're that redneck) Fajitas/tacos (without toppings because I rarely remember to get them) Help! I know that some of you are excellent cooks.  Let's have a little contest .  Easiest, yummiest recipe! Two categories: Main entrees Side dishes Must use the following in entrees: ground beef OR skinless chicken breasts Must use the following in side dishes: corn, peas, green beans (canned) *we do use other vegetables, just these are the most often* broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, lettuce are others we enjoy *we also enjoy casserole dishes!* We have zero food allergies that we're aware of, but cannot afford expensive items (i.e. no garlic cloves - those suckers are more than $2.50 a piece!). Please nothing that makes me a slav...

Potty training? Going to soon? Well, Baby Signs Potty Training Kit may be able to help. If you've ever signed with your child(ren), then you know the great help it is to teach them about their world and life. The same can be said with potty training. I haven't used this product but I have a Baby Signs Parent Kit (which is helpful if you're just getting started signing) with a flip chart (helpful for sitters and grandparents). Want a chance to win the potty training kit (like I do)? Check it out here at Connected 2 Christ. Good luck

Mommy calling card giveaway

Image
Ever heard of Mommy calling cards? Personally, I think they are sweet and very useful. Who ever has a paper and pen at the same time and can wrangle them out to write down info while keeping an eye on the kids? Not me. And seeing as I need some mommy play dates, maybe these would help me. It just so happens that Natalie's Sentiments is sponsoring a giveaway of just those things (mommy calling cards...well or other things like birth annoucements. It's a $40 giveaway to The Blue Buggy ). Check out Natalie's blog for more information and for other giveaways from her birthday extravaganza!

Dear Mama, Please you must blog about Flying Giggles and Lollipops ' new giveaway: it's Sid the Science Kid. You know I love this show and would love it if you won the DVDs. Oh, you don't know how much I love this show? Don't you realize that when I stick everything from a plastic baseball bat to a color in your face, begging you to say, "I'm Sid the Science Kid!" (or "I'm T.T. the Science Kid!") that I adore this show? Or how about when you sing "Rug Time" and I pretend I'm Gerald? That doesn't scream how much I love Sid? And Mama, I know you considered naming Squirt "Zeke" thanks to this show, so I just know you love it, too, ok? So enter...now. And if you don't win, buy the DVDs for me (please). Thanks! Love, Moose (the left is me, watching Sid on PBS...check your local listings) PS You should totally video tape me while I do all of the above because your readers would laugh and say I'm cute...lol

I need this!

baby name contest & Writer's Workshop

Image
Although this contest was supposed to have a prize, I apologize because I underestimated our financial situation. Not to say we're bad off but just not comfortable quite yet. ANYWAY, I'm still going to hold the contest and the winner will receive.... the knowledge of winning! Big A & I are having a hard time coming up with a b oy name for this new baby. Now, we don't know for sure Baby 2 is a boy, but we have a girl name picked out. If this baby comes out with more estrogen than testosterone, she will be Evie (pronounced EV) Lynn (my middle name). However, if this baby comes out with a pee-pee, we have only a vague idea of what to name him. Our choices so far: Isaac, Samuel, Charlie (EDIT: just Charlie, not Charles). Middle name for Isaac & Samuel would be Lee (same as Moose's, Big A's, my dad's, and Big A's dad's). However, Lee does not fit with Charlie. OR my husband's choice: Nacho. haha Here is where you come in. Since we aren't stu...

do you enjoy life's simple pleasures?

Image
I'm reading "Bringing Up Boys" by Dr. James Dobson (founder of Focus on the Family). I LOVE it! It has just affirmed what I know to be true: that my husband is a MAN, a REAL man (who I love to death), and that raising a boy is so important (not that raising a girl is unimportant, but if you read the book, you'll understand that it's just really different). This is not my point to this post. It is actually about why we feel disconnected to others. I'm sure if we dig deep down, we all know that it is - in part - due to technology. We keep up with people on Facebook, email, MySpace, text messaging, etc, etc. He says it a lot better than I can. "Are you one of these harried women running in endless circles? Have you found yourself too busy to read a good book or take a long walk with your spouse or hold your three-year-old child on your lap while telling him or her a story? Have you taken time to study God's Word - to commune with Him and listen to His ge...

blessed is she who blogs

Image
I have met some of the most amazing women through this blog. I know I don't have a huge following but I have some serious sweeties who comment. I've received prayers, encouragement, and even some gifts from some spectacular people. And I've won a couple of giveaways, too! Most recently, I've won a really cool thermometer so I can stop using the rectal one on Moose (he says, thank God). And Aubrey has been really encouraging through my sleep process and just my pre-baby blues stuff I'm going through (you should go over and tell her how amazing she is, because...she is). In the spirit of Paying it Forward, I really want to host a giveaway. I'm not quite sure what I want to give away though. I'd like it to be something special (I'd really like for it to be homemade, but I'm not sure if I have the required craftiness to take on something like this). So, let me gestate on it for a few days, possibly the weekend. You can submit ideas, if you wish... Check...

giveaway with a heart

Image
Everyone is having great giveaways this holiday season, but I haven't seen any with this kind of heart. This giveaway is hosted by Jen at Cheaper than Therapy . Here's what she has to say about the contest: "My friend Kristen at La Dolce Vita has one of my favorite Etsy shops around! She makes hand-stamped jewelry that is amazing, and also donates portions of her proceeds to a different charity each month. December's featured charity will be Toys for Tots . The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Kristen's new beautiful necklace, offered in the December promotion, has a hammered disc stamped with "Wish" and an added sterling star charm. It's gorgeous!" It's really easy to enter and to get extra entries, so you should probably head on over there before Nove...
