Holiday Slim Down Update 3

It's Week 5 for Natalie's Holiday Slim Down. I'm in a 2 pound slump. And it's no one's fault but my own, of course. I'm just not watching what I eat or eating too large of portions. I just really love carbs: pastas, potatoes, crackers...yum, yum! So my goals for this week are: 1. Walk our "new" route three times & the "old" route once 2. Yoga at least 4 times this week 3. 3-4 tall glasses of water each day 4. Encourage myself as much as possible We signed up for our walk/run - $18 registration fee per person so we're not backing out! I'm very excited about this. Last week, I walked with the boys (once - boo) 2.5 miles so I know I can make it. I mean, I had both boys with me and during the actual event, I'll only have Squirt. The group goal for this week is to not eat sweets for a straight 48 hours. I'm planning on doing this on Wednesday and Thursday. We have a wedding Friday and birthday party on Saturday. I'm excite

take me out to the ballgame...

Moose loves balls. It was one of his first words (comprehensible words). He'll take them in our kitchen (the only room where they bounce well) and go, "ball be ball ball ball." And it's adorable. On this particular day sometime in the last few weeks he had this small baseball bat that came with a noisy toy. He was using it to hit the ball around. Not sure if he knows that is really what bats are for or not, but it sure makes for some cute playtime. "Take me out to the ballgame" happens to be a favorite song, too!

SITScation 2009

SITScation is coming up in October. I'd love to go ... and I'd love for whrrl to sponsor my trip! Check it out by clicking below or HERE (click the like button while you're there...please?). Powered by Whrrl

first smiles first haircuts and the world premiere of...Moose, the Science Kid (please excuse the singing...I know it's hard on the ears)! I was also pleasantly surprised to step on the scale today after a Yoga workout with Bob . I have to check again but I'm pretty sure it says I've lost 2 pounds SINCE SUNDAY! I'll update you on that soon. And I'll tell ya that yoga was hard work, especially with Moose freaking out. If I do anything seen on tv, he tries to stop me by pulling on my shirt or pulling me (which is hard when you're trying to do yoga which involves a lot of balance). It was good, though, and I worked through him until he started to crawl under me during downward dog (so funny). Also, check out my WHRRL slideshow on the sidebar or HERE . Want to go to SITScation? Check out the details HERE .

Squirt's first smile

As promised, Squirt's first smile. Love it! Wish he'd do it more often... more videos to come soon...including, "Moose" the Science Kid (aka Moose in all his "Sid the Science Kid" glory).
Very quick twitter-like update (sort of): Going to do a 5 mile run/walk (I'll do the walking because I will not be ready to run 5 miles in time) in mid-September. More details later. :) BUT I'm excited!

Holiday Slim Down Update 2

This isn't going so well. I don't have the energy to go workout. I don't have the willpower (as much as I claim to) to not eat snacks. I don't even like sweets but when I tell myself I can't have them, I end up eating more than I ever do. I'm frustrated as I stepped on the scale...back to where I started. Granted, I'd only lost a pound (but this is also with a non-digital scale so this is sort of a guess, too). I'll get weighed tomorrow at the doctor's. I'm just frustrated. I know my ideal weight is around 135 but I'm so far from that, it seems impossible. I also don't know that it'd be healthy to be that small. I have hips and shoulders...I'm stocky. ugh...

we have a smiler here!

That's right, my little baby has officially smiled his first smile....at Big A. *sigh* I guess Daddy will always get the first smile. Unfair. BUT I did catch it on camera so (when I find the time) I will post that video. I was so excited about that. I tried all day yesterday to get him to smile at me...no such luck. And then today he smiled at me. Oh, I forget how magical little baby gummy smiles are. Definitely worth sleepless nights.

Kool-Aid

Image
I don't know if every knows this but Kool-Aid was invented in Nebraska. In Hastings, Nebraska to be exact. This town is just about an hour from where I grew up. Each summer they have Kool-Aid Days to commemorate the invention of this sugary (and delicious) drink. We happened to be back at my parents' house this past weekend and decided to take Moose over there to check out the festivities. Mind you, this child didn't have sugar for the first year of his life and still sugar is not a daily commodity in this house (at least not for him). Needless to say, this was his first drink of Kool-Aid. We also got to hang out with the Kool-Aid guy. Oh Yeah!!! Moose loved him! He didn't want to walk away. He's like that with mascots; they don't freak him out like they do some kids. Weirdo. And then we walked around, looked at the outrageously priced merchandise (although we got the cup Moose is drinking from for $2 but they had a onesie for $15 and a beach towel for $25, I th

Big A's Bromance

I think the word bromance is silly and I think the idea is funny, but... I find myself laughing even harder as I tell you about my husband's very own bromance! Big A found his friend (what do you call half of the bromance? guy friend?) at work; it's his foreman. I've only met the guy, we'll call him Bro, twice and very briefly both times. Apparently Big A and Bro have a lot in common (honestly, I don't even know what, but I just know Big A likes him). Big A talks about him like I think Moose will talk about his first girlfriend. Just excited and thinks this episode is funny, blah blah. The funniest part is that they have bought one another lunch even. I thought this idea of a bromance would kind of freak Big A out, honestly. I mean, he's a sensative guy but I thought this idea may be a little too metro for him. But one day as he was going on and on about Bro, I just said, "honey, you have a bromance!" He stopped and I thought he would vehemently deny t

And Mama, I know you considered naming Squirt "Zeke" thanks to this show, so I just know you love it, too, ok? So enter...now. And if you don't win, buy the DVDs for me (please). Thanks! Holiday Slim Down Update 1

How did I do this week? Um....yeah. Not too bad, I guess, but let's look at it by my goals. 1. Start my Slim Fast diet. One drink for breakfast, one for lunch plus half a sandwich or other small meal, and a healthy dinner. Add in 2 very small, healthy snacks. This went fairly well until the weekend. Yeah. The dinner out at Applebee's, the puppy chow my husband made and the wedding we attended (with a candy table) really didn't help. But I'll do better. I know that one of the worst things you can do as you try to lose weight is beat yourself up over mistakes. 2. Take a walk 4 days a week AND do some kind of in-home workout 4 days a week. If it's too hot to walk outside, then I can substitute the in-home workout (and vice versa). I started off fairly well with an :08 Pilates workout Monday, chasing after Moose at the mall and giving him a shoulder ride for about 10 minutes on Tuesday, and carrying Squirt around the fair for about an hour on Thursday. But not really my

why did I do this to myself?

A few weeks ago, Big A called me and asked if it'd be alright if he joined a flag football league. What was I supposed to say? No? Yeah and then I feel guilty about him not having fun. So I said yes. Today, I'm regretting it. Today is the first practice. I get to be home with the kids. AND Big A so nicely pointed out that I probably won't even go to the games because Moose will want to play. It's not like I can stop him and take care of Squirt at the same time. Yay. Wish I had something to go to. Oh yeah, and those goals? Yeash. I've worked out twice (and yes, I'm counting walking around Sam's Club with my two yahoos because I carried one of them and our cart was heavy) and today the diet - out the window (ok started last night with Culver's ice cream and kept going with 2 corn dogs & puppy chow). Oh well, I'll keep trying. Good thing is that I've lost 2 pounds since I weighed myself earlier this week! AND my wedding ring ALMOST fits. Well, i

so tired but I haven't yelled at Moose like I have been doing. yay! and I'm also tired of being sick. yuck. -I need Twitter for these short posts... To make it longer (and more appealing), I leave you with pictures of Moose & Squirt. Moose loves to sit in our computer chair and "wee" or spin himself around. He is so happy when he's "wee"-ing. And I thought this picture of Squirt was sweet.

3 years

I wanted to post the video but you can't embed this video from YouTube. Anyway...the lyrics. Little Moments - Brad Paisley Well I'll never forget the first time that I heard That pretty mouth say that dirty word And I can't even remember now what she backed my truck into But she covered her mouth and her face got red And she just looked so darn cute That I couldn't even act like I was mad Yeah I live for little moments like that Well that's just like last year on my birthday She lost all track of time and burnt the cake And every smoke detector in the house was goin' off And she was just about to cry until I took her in my arms And I tried not to let her see me laugh Yeah I live for little moments like that I know she's not perfect but she tries so hard for me And I thank god that she isn't 'cause how boring would that be It's the little imperfections it's the sudden change in plans When she misreads the directions and we're lost but hold

The Motions - Matthew West

This might hurt It’s not safe But I know that I’ve gotta make a change I don’t care If I break At least I’ll be feeling something ‘Cause just ok Is not enough Help me fight through the nothingness of life I don’t wanna go through the motions I don’t wanna go one more day Without Your all consuming passion inside of me I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking What if I had given everything? Instead of going through the motions No regrets Not this time I’m gonna let my heart defeat my mind Let Your love Make me whole I think I’m finally feeling something Take me all the way Take me all the way Take me all the way -I feel this way about so many things. 1. Of course, the Lord as the song pertains to. I really feel a calling to women's ministry. I'd like to start a MOPS group or even just a Bible study focused on women or moms or college-aged girls or high school-aged girls. My problem right now is that we aren't sure which church we're called to (our current church is plant

Holiday Slim Down!

Image
Natalie from Natalie's Sentiments has started a new blog called Holiday Slim Down: 15 Pounds in 15 Weeks. Now, I know I have more than 15 pounds to lose. Honestly? I could lose about 40-50 pounds and still be healthy. Of course, I won't and can't lose this all at once (wouldn't that be great?). But 30 pounds in 15 weeks wouldn't be bad: 2 pounds per week. However, I will give myself some grace and say I want to lose 20+ pounds by Christmas. My goals for this week: 1. Start my Slim Fast diet. One drink for breakfast, one for lunch plus half a sandwich or other small meal, and a healthy dinner. Add in 2 very small, healthy snacks. 2. Take a walk 4 days a week AND do some kind of in-home workout 4 days a week. If it's too hot to walk outside, then I can substitute the in-home workout (and vice versa). 3. Pick out a goal outfit. Anybody want to join? Head on over to the holiday slim down home blog and read the welcome post. I'm ready to get started!

God's call

Church today was good. The pastor who started (I think) the People's City Mission spoke about the early church. How everyone back then had a mission of their own rather than just being the audience in the congregation. It wasn't about listening to a message but spreading the Word. He challenged us to all talk to God about a vision, our own mission. For awhile now, God's been speaking to my heart about my mission. I know it's something involving women. The specifics of my mission are more unclear. I'm not sure if it's starting a MOPS group or leading a Bible study for college girls. I think it's leaning more toward the MOPS group. Today the pastor said that sometimes God puts us in certain places because that's our mission. Well, I'm a mother of preschoolers. I don't know everything about being a mom, a Christian, a leader...but I'm willing to be obedient to Him and learn. Now I just need to get the juevos to talk to our pastor about this and
I love weekends!!! Big A is home and he helps out a TON with laundry, dishes, cooking, kids. He's seriously the best husband ever...what would I do without him? I hate all these exercise infomercials. I want to buy anything and everything that will get this baby weight OFF! The suckiest thing? I only have about 10 baby pounds to lose...the rest is just my fat. PBBBT...and I have a wedding in a week of a friend from high school. I don't want to see people I graduated with (and don't talk to but for whatever reason still don't want them to think badly of me) when I look like this. And, no, it doesn't matter that I only had a baby a few weeks ago....I'm going shopping tomorrow for a dress or outfit that won't make me look like I just had a baby a few weeks ago to wear to the wedding. lol Yeah...we'll see how many tears that brings on. :)
