bribery and some other shocking moments from my life this semester and Petite Lemon giveaway WINNER

Moose was having a horrible time at drop off for school these past few weeks. He'd cry, saying "I want to go home!" in the most pathetic/fake/cry voice he could muster. Then he'd have a great day. It was torture for me. In the mornings, I was ready to homeschool. In the afternoons I was thrilled he'd had such a great day (NO behavior problems thus far). What's a mom to do? Bribe him. Reward/bribe. Tomato/tomato (doesn't do it justice to type that, huh). Enter: Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. image via Amazon Thank You, Lord for our awesome interloan library system. I can get Wii games as the aforementioned. And I've used this Wii game to trick/bribe/reward Moose for walking into class like a big boy. He can say "I can't wait to come home at 3:00" (and I loved hearing a friend tell me that he was singing this in the hall around lunchtime one day this week), but no whining, crying, or saying he wants to come home (seriously? Does...

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Good morning and welcome to the S Club!! I'm Randi (aka the S Club Mama). I had such a hard time choosing a category to link up with for UBP11! The only ones I knew for sure I didn't line up with is a business blog and dad blog. So I sure hope that all of you find some piece of my life that you can connect with and stick around to follow our S Club antics! I wanted to share some random information with you about myself so we can get to know one another. - I just turned 25; many times I'm the youngest of whatever group I'm hanging out with - I have two sons: Moose (3 1/2) and Squirt (1 1/2) - I really enjoy staying home with them; even on hard days, I can't imagine being elsewhere - I've been married to my college sweetheart, Big A , for 4 1/2 years - My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid (love that red hair) - I have 5 hanging calendars in my house - and I still feel unorganized! - I am not a chocoholic BUT will eat it if it's around :S - I...

ABCs of me

ABCs of Me  This weekend is crazy! Movie party Friday night, book party Saturday (don't forget to order online by Sunday at midnight CST if you want), church Sunday. I have been sick and just exhausted lately, so I'm hoping for some sleeping in, too. But to get you through the lull of the weekend (ha), I thought I'd leave you with some random tid-bits about myself. (A) Age: I will be 25 in just under a month (yes, I know I'm young) (B) Bed Size: King. Big A & I decided during my 2nd pregnancy that we couldn't deal with a queen anymore (especially a hand-me-down queen) so we upgraded. However, I cuddle so much, we may as well have a twin. (C) Chore You Hate: Dishes and laundry. I hate things that are never ending. (D) Dogs? I wish. We can't have pets in our rental. And I don't want a dog in town; I think it's cruel. I definitely don't want a dog in my house - gross. (E) Essential Start Your Day Item: I am with TMB; I'm starving when I wake up...

Tag! You're It

Apparently, I'm stealing a lot from Stacey's blog lately (if you haven't checked out my vlog or hers , do so). She tagged me in a little thing so here it goes... Rule #1: the tagged person must write their answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves. Rule #2: tag 4 people to do this quiz; they cannot refuse (ok, so nothing bad will happen if you don’t participate but I would love to see your answers). The tag-ee must state who tagged them. 1. If you have pets, do you see them as merely animals or are they members of your family? We can't have pets, although some day I'd like a dog or a cat (although Big A dislikes cats). BUT they will be animals, not family members. 2. If you could have a dream come true, what would it be? That I would be able to raise up my kids to be passionate followers of Christ (stealing that from Stacey!) - otherwise, materialistically have a comfy house with a ...

phew! under control

I feel extremely better today! Moose hasn't thrown up since 3am and is silently napping (as is his little bro). Phew. Squirt had a vaccine today; Moose had some blood drawn (to check his chromosomes, DNA, and to check for Fragile X syndrome ). So we had a busy morning but I'm enjoying the last few minutes of a silent nap time (although I can hear some baby cries from my baby as he wakes up). The worst part about moving is leaving our doctor (not to say I won't miss my friends but they are closer than she will be and I will see them again; although I'll see her once a year at the Applejack Festival at least). She's terrific. I was telling her about reading the ADOS report that I got last night in the mail. There are so many discrepancies from where we live to it saying that Moose has received a diagnosis of ASD already from his school system, to saying he had deficits in the symbolic play portion of ADOS (which they said he did awesome), to saying we discussed the...

full marathon? part dos

Image
I never thought I'd see the day where I was choosing to make a decision between running 13.1 miles and 26.2 miles. Both sound a bit extreme and possibly slightly insane. But here I sit with my decision. I would like to run a GOOD half marathon before deciding about a full. By a good half, I mean not dying at mile 10. I want to finish strong and feel that I trained my best. When I do decide about a full, I have thought through the training on that. I would do a 3-day schedule with some cross-training, too. Something like this (but not quite because I don't really want to do tempos); I also like the idea of doing 13 miles one long run, then taper the next long run. Back and forth so I can spend more time with my family. Because that's why I run, to be healthy for them (and me, of course). Also, I realize I've been writing a LOT of reviews lately. I'm going to try to tone them down to a few per week along with my regular posts about motherhood, running, life. I ju...

semi-stream of concious

Sorry I've been MIA this week. Last Saturday, the 5K run/walk and 1 mile walk I've been on a committee for finally happened. We've been planning for months (there is a LOT of planning in races, ladies and gents, let me tell you. And this was a small affair; I can't imagine the big ones). I'm glad it's over. I'm glad it was a success (I have yet to see how we did financially but we had a good turn out of 50-60 people). After that, I've just kind of been in a funk as far as blogging is going. I don't have anything profound to say (or if I do, I'm having a hard time putting it into well-written words). That's why all the pictures of my boys as of late (not that I'm sure you mind; they are handsome little fellas). I need to write down some blogging ideas. I have one in mind...I'd like to feature different SAHM (or former SAHM) to see their thoughts on staying home. I have a questionnaire but I'm not sure if it's complete. That be...

Attachment Tales Resolved

A professor from my alma mater has written a primer for parents, teachers, and therapists. I don't believe I ever had this man as one of my teachers, but I think my husband did. I honestly can't remember (although looking at the picture of him, he is familiar). This is from the book's website : Are you one of the "insecurely attached?" According to human development professor Mark Greenberg, children who develop an insecure attachment with the primary caregiver a re at high risk to develop oppositional defiant disorder, later progressing into conduct disorder. In this book, author Mark Beischel, a trained psychologist who specializes in neglect and abuse with children and adults, shares scientific evidence created from his vast experience of training thousands of psychologists, clinical social workers, professional counselors, family therapists, mental-health workers, teachers, and parents. He discusses about attachment and how to help childr...

Vacation Viewpoints

Yeah that's a lame post title - give me a break. LOL I am actually very much enjoying this mini-vacation away from my sons. I miss them, don't get me wrong, but it's been nice (and quiet) to have time by myself and with Big A. We dropped the boys off with my parents (well, my mom because I tried giving my dad directions and he told me I was telling the wrong person...ok) and headed out to Colorado. I love this state! Not that we've done any sight-seeing but it's been good. Sunday we didn't do anything really - tried out the pool. We got an upgrade on our room when we checked in bc I said it was our first time away from our boys in 3 years - so sweet (but we haven't used the whirlpool at all haha). Monday Big A had seminar work stuff (boring) while I hung out at the hotel all day (slightly boring). I got some pool workout in (30 minutes and really I didn't know what I was doing so yeah). I read some Max Lucado (review coming soon) and watched a bunch ...

...taken a nap only to not be able to sleep at night, completely defeating the purpose of the nap? ...kept your toes (or fingernails) painted the same color for months? ...tried to set up a play date only to have the mom blow you off (by saying that life was hectic at the time)? realized she has had several play dates with others since then? wondered why? ...left a reception because you were tired of your child not listening to you? ...lost weight to fit into clothes only to need new clothes once they were too big? ...ran 7 miles? ...wished a friend lived much closer only to realize it wouldn't make a difference? ...wished a friend lived closer because it would? ...known that you have the best husband? ...secretly wished someone would "discover" your kids because of how stinking cute they are? ...realized that you love going to church? ...felt like Sunday School was a date for you and your husband? ...been amazed at how a few days with a tee can im...

sorry!

My apologies for the lack of posts so far this week. I feel like it's been forever since I posted (although I do realize that it was only last Thursday). Sunday was my first 5 mile run. I even ran it on the treadmill (only stopping once for a potty break)! I've been busy helping Big A enter the world of loving Lord of the Rings. We're all the way through the first and partway into the second. He likes them. He is just very hesitant to watch new (very very long) movies. He's weird. I had my book party last Saturday. A few wonderful ladies showed up and I think we had a good time. Next time though, I need to shove cupcakes in their faces because only one ate one! tsk tsk who passes up a good cupcake? LOL I will post pictures whenever I stop being too lazy to upload pictures onto the computer. They turned out darling and I finally got to use my cupcake stand. Prayers are needed for my family. I don't think I ever got back with you about my mom's test - ever...

tidbit tuesday

i meant to get up at 6am to workout; my hubby took care of the kids and didn't wake me until 7. it's days like this i wonder why i ever get mad at him; too many men wouldn't do that. the baby is almost sitting up and almost crawling. it's going to be a big deal when he does; we've been waiting patiently for a few months now. we've finally realized (after 7 months) that he enjoys his formula warm. #1 parents, right? he is still in love with his older brother - although sometimes i think he's in love with his hair. we've started to tell him no; even moose tells him "no pull hair." he's mischievous, that's for certain. his smile can light up a room while his wail could set off a stampede. moose has grown up so fast in the past year. i was checking out old pictures of him and remembering what he was like, what he sounded like, just a year ago. while so much of him is still very baby-ish, he has grown up. i love when he helps me around the h...
