My boys and I got the opportunity to watch the new Veggie Tales DVD, "Noah's Ark." The first thing I noticed was that Bob and Larry look....different. Weird. They have no eye lids anymore and Larry's coloring is more realistic rather than monochromatic. To me, it makes them look more childish like this show is for babies, which it's not. Maybe I just don't like change or think, 'if it's not broke, don't fix it.' image via walmart.com The movie itself was good. Shem (Noah's son) comes home from his honeymoon to find his family building an ark, The Ark. He's not so happy about it because it spoils his plans for his future. The DVD is "a lesson in trusting God" and throughout you see if Shem and his family will ultimately trust God through this flood. While my family loves Veggie Tales, I will admit that I prefer the episodes featuring Bible stories (Phil Vischer era). However, I do believe even the newer episodes offer good moral lessons which can provide good foundation for children when they are taught alongside Biblical principals and ways of life. Lanny (Larry the Cucumber) had a granddaughter, Laura (the Carrot), who wanted to save Celery Park, where they used to perform, from Bruce Onion (voiced by Terry Crews). Veggie Tales has been around for some time; I remember watching Madame Blueberry in junior high. It wasn't until I started to watch the shows with my kids that I learned how valuable the lessons they taught are. Which is why I'm so thankful they started to make Veggie Tales books. We own a Veggie Tale Bible and Saint Nicholas books but have read numerous more. " Pirates, Mess Detectives, and a Superhero " by Karen Roth stay true to the Veggie Tale premise of using time-honored Biblical virtues in their lessons. This is my favorite Veggie Tales song and I think it fully encompasses the message that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered in his "I Have a Dream" speech - that everyone can be equal and be friends. So in honor of his day, here is "I Can Be Your Friend." 

1+1+1=1 has become a frequent stop in my home school curriculum quest. She did not invent lap books/tot books (not that I'm aware of) but she made it easy for me (and you) to make them for our own kids. I honestly have downloaded almost every printable she has for tot books. I am taking pre-school very slowly this year. Speech therapy starts this week for Moose and I'd love to potty train him before he's 4. Those are honestly my main goals. He knows shapes, numbers, letters, and colors - BUT I also don't want him to not use them and forget. That is where tot books come in to play. So I made him a Veggie Tales tot book! He loves Bob and Larry. We have a few VT videos and one VT book so he is well acquainted. I thought this was a good first attempt.
