Influence

My friend, Erin, from Home with the Boys is hosting 31 Days of Being a Woman on her blog. This past weekend, she wrote about influence - how we influence others and others whom influence us. She asked us to write a post about the woman/women who influence us. What a hard prompt. I have women who influence me in different areas (fashion, parenting, loving others, being a wife, fitness). I don't have ONE woman, ONE friend who totally influences me in everything right now. While I still haven't found that one person who I can call when I'm feeling down or who I feel I can talk to about everything, I've come to realize I don't need one person to be the BESTEST BEST friend ever. I have different friends who are in my life for different reasons. Not every woman in my life is going to be referenced but each one does influence me in one way or another; whenever you're in contact with a person, you are an influence to one another. In the area of mothering, I dra...

what is a lady?

Image
Tonight we had a terrific speaker from Kansas City join us at our church for our Mother-Daughter Banquet. She spoke on: "what is a lady?" She used the acronym "LADY" to help us answer that question. L - listener A - affirmer D - disciplined Y - yielded to Christ picture of Mary in Nativity Story - picture of a lady We listen to our husbands, children, friends, and family members. We affirm our girl friends, our husbands, and our children. We are disciplined, organized, and self-controlled. We have yielded our lives to Christ and the Holy Spirit. I really appreciated this topic - very feminine but not fluffy matter. And the fellowship over our supper was just wonderful. I got to sit with my little sister and one of my best friends (who also happens to be one of my best affirmers). Just a beautiful night. Big A & I also attended a marriage conference that I'd love to share about later this week. Good stuff!

wear a bra, dang it!

Women, Before you break the proverbial glass ceiling(s), befriend a bra. Not just any bra, but a well-fitting bra (may I suggest a Victoria's Secret bra fitting). I am haunted by years of living with a mother who would have burned bras if she'd been old enough in the '60s. When she wore a bra, it was one with only the sheer cup and underwire. Underwire is not the only support you need (especially if you are a B or larger cup). I was watching something not terribly long ago and they were doing bra fittings (probably Rachel Ray or GMA or something). The lady said that an ill-fitting bra can add at least 10 pounds to your body. I pondered that thought. (image via http://danesecreations.com/brasecrets.html) It makes total sense! They are droppy if you have an ill-fitting bra. They sit too close to your stomach when there should be some inches between the most prominent part of each body part. I know that when I wear my ill-fitting sports bras, I look much heavier than when I we...
