goals

The other day I was doing a Sydney Cummings workout video on YouTube, when she said something that really struck me. She said that "location doesn't dictate your goals." She was talking about fitness, but I believe it applies to spiritual goals, too.   My goals for my children and myself haven't changed from before COVID-19. I still pray the same things:   -for my children to surrender to and love the Lord   -for my children to love others (starting with their siblings)   -for my children to kill the idols and sin in their lives   -for them to trust and obey (their parents and the Lord)   -for them to have security   My goals for myself haven't changed. I still pray the same things for myself:   -to focus on Christ   -to choose the pleasure of humility   -to take my thoughts captive and renew my mind   -to practice stillness and silence (much more difficult but maybe more important right now)   -to keep my ...

It's that time of the year again....resolutions

Image
I love making resolutions and goals. You can do it any time, of course, but I really like the New Year's Resolutions. A fresh start. I can't remember what I resolved to do last year (I'm not sure if that's good or bad), but here are my goals and resolutions for 2013: - write more letters (while organizing I came across letters and cards. I want that again. Nothing like snail mail.) - have unintentional Facebook time once a week. Other times on there must be specific, get on and get off. - run 26.2 consecutive miles (in May) - take 1 walk (at least) per week with my boys (weather permitting) - 1,000 blessings joy dare from Ann Voskamp That's really it. I want to improve my prayer life but I don't have a specific goal for that. I also want to read more books, but, again, there is no specific goal. I'd like to lose that weight hanging on from LAST Christmas, but no real specified goal (other than the 26.2 training). What about you? Any goals th...

Top Ten Tuesday: My Word of the Year

Image
I know, I know. Tuesday's almost over (at least here in CST). However, I just finished reading my friend Erin's post about her word of the year: simplify . I wanted to share with you MY word of the year because it's a tough one and I need some support with it! Ten Things I Will Be INTENTIONAL With This Year: 1. My words. I have a big, quick-talking, foolish mouth. There is proverb after proverb in Scripture that talks about foolish speech. James 3:6-12 talks about the tongue being a fire, an evil fire. One of my biggest struggles is cursing. Not in every day speech but when I'm upset or stub my toe. I'm much better than I have been, but I'm nowhere near the standard to which I hold myself. 2. My time. I am lazy. Most people don't know that about me. They assume that because I'm dedicated to running that I am a get-up-and-go type of person. I'm not. I am fairly certain I'm a good portion sloth. I love to hang out and sit around. I love not...

2012

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you rang in the new year better than our little Squirt did here. Let's just say too much junk food, bounce house, and staying up too late resulted in many changing of the sheets (and destroying of our bounce house). Big A is ever the best husband and daddy in the world - now snoozing in a twin bed with our little puker. I'll be sharing my king-sized with Moose here shortly. 2011 was a great year for us and I wanted to share some of our highlights (no particular order). 1. Moving to Kansas & closer to friends. 2. Moose being diagnosed with autism. 3. Moose starting pre-school. 4. Getting involved in our church: women's ministry president & Big A's Sunday school class. 5. Running 640 miles (including elliptical & walking = 667). 6. Beating Big A in two half marathons. :) 7. Meeting former Biggest Loser contestants. 8. Being so motivated by so many other people who have asked me (me?) about getting started toward fitnes...

summer resolutions

Image
We try to be relaxed during the summer (and we're pretty relaxed in fall, winter, & spring, too), especially as far as our schedules are concerned. However, I do have some resolutions: 1. go to the pool at least 3 times (we've gone a total of 0 times the past 2 summers). 2. read at least 3 books a month (for myself). 3. try to keep tv time for the boys <1 hour a day plus 1 full-length film per week (except during long travel times in the van). 4. keep Moose up at least one night to stargaze and look at fireflies. 5. take 1 nap a week (for me). 6. do at least 15 minutes of school stuff with Moose 3-4 days a week. 7. try to teach Squirt 3 colors (red, blue, yellow). 8. find a sitter for July 16 so Big A & I can go to a wedding by ourselves. 9. take Moose to his first movie = Cars 2 (are you surprised?). 10. throw a pretty sweet birthday party for my boys! What do you want to get done this summer?

Bucket List

Randi's Bucket List in no particular order - see my boys come to know Christ - drive on Route 66 to California - write a book (children's, novel, self-help - doesn't matter) - run a full marathon - skydive! - own a home - decorate my home - dance with Anthony on our 50th wedding anniversary (and beyond) - have wooden swing sets in our backyard (swings, jungle gym things, etc) - go visit all the cool Civil War things in Richmond that we never saw when we lived there - run a race for autism (Autism Speaks, OAR) not sure yet - coordinate my own running race (proceeds for autism) - go to Australia - ride on a train (preferably Thomas the Tank Engine!) - spend Thanksgiving in NYC (Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!!!) with my husband & kids - whitewater rafting with my husband and kids - attend Harvard (even if it's like one class when I'm old and can afford it haha) - help my kids through college There are a lot more, I'm sure. I don't think this is a sta...
