Max Lucado is one of the leading biblical authorities. He is a best-selling author of numerous books, my favorite being his Wemmick books . However, these books may have to make room for "Max on Life: Answers and Insights to Your Most Important Questions." In "Max on Life ," Max answers questions from people who have written to him over the years. The questions have a broad range from "My pastor offers to visit the sick and anoint them with oil. Sounds like voodoo to me. What do you think?" (Max offers the Scripture from James 5:13-16) to "Our church is having trouble getting along. Sides are being drawn, and tempers are flaring. I received the gift book " You Changed My Life " by Max Lucado from BookSneeze. The subtitle of the book sums up what the book is about: "Stories of Real People with Remarkable Hearts." How true is it that the heroes that really make up this world are ordinary people?! We don't need superpowers or super-cool gadgets to make a difference in the world. This book has proof of that within its pages. The thought-provoking and heart-warming stories in this gift book are laid out in a beautifully simple way. The pictures and verses or quotes with each story provide more than aesthetic purposes, revealing the poignant properties of the tale. Lucado shows (as before in Cast of Characters ) that it doesn't take a Superman (or Wonder Woman) to change the world (or history). As many Christians have, I've read my fair share of Max Lucado books. In my case, it's mostly his books for kids. However, I jumped at the chance to read "Cast of Characters." It sounded like my kind of book: short and Christian (I've been struggling to tackle long-winded books lately). The book itself is not short but the chapters are the kind you can read in a sitting. I greatly appreciate anything I can read in segments because often that's all the time I have. "Cast of Characters" is a gathering of selections from Lucado's vast works. You find tales about the most extraordinary characters in the Bible: Mary, Peter, Matthew, Joseph, Nicodemus, Woman at the Well, David, Esther, Job, The Samaritan Woman, John, Rich Young Man. Or are they extraordinary? As we look back on their histories, we find that they weren't all that extraordinary. They all had their faults, their hangups, and their own sins. Well, my dear husband just can't seem to hang on to a job {said in joking fashion}. First he was fired two Julys ago, then we quit in Virginia, and now he's been laid off. 2010 is off to a good start, right?
