book exchange!

I have been frequenting the local library looking for some interesting reads lately because, despite my large library of my own books, I haven't found anything calling my name to be read. Then my good friend, Angie of Seven Clown Circus fame, decided to host a bloggy book exchange.


There are usually some good exchanges floating around the blogosphere, but I have never participated in any of them. And I, English literature geek that I am, was thrilled to participate in this one.

I looked through my own library and chose some of my favorite books to send to my new friend, Rebekkah from Life with Kaishon. Then I awaited the arrival of her books for me. Here's what I got in the mail:


I don't vlog very often because I think I look like a dork, but since my camera is floating with the fishes, I decided to let you have a peek at my living room. Excuse my stupid ending - I feel like such a dork taping myself.

For those who can't see the video, here are the titles I received: Over Her Dead Body (movie), Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, True Believer by Nicholas Sparks, Lyrics of Love & Loss: A Poetic Journey Through Infertility and Adoption by Stephanie H. Garcia, and Nobody Knows by Mary Jane Clark. I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan and know of Mary Jane Clark, but have never read anything by her, so I'm excited. I think this will open doors of literature for me (wow, I'm a geek, right).

I'm excited to read each of them (or watch in the case of the movie). Thank you so much Rebekkah. Angie, thanks for hosting this. I look forward to participating again.

I LOVED your vlog. You are a natural on camera!

I love that even though you don't necessarily have a NEED for the infertility and adoption book you are willing to give it a try.

I read Like Water for Elephants a couple of years ago. I remember really liking the prose.

Randi- you did awesome. I know vlogging can be hard, we all think we look like dorks! You do not look like a dork. I love Nicholas Sparks, his books are so good. I have Water For Elephants, it is in my to-read pile.

Great job!! Now I have a voice to put with the words :) A book that I've read recently that I LOVED and would read again is A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. It's an older book, a little long, but really powerful.

that was way cute! ok - someone told me that if you post your video on YouTube (you can make it private, so no one else sees), then the "reverse image" will correct itself.

a book swap sounds so cool!!! Now **I** wanna do one. Hmm....


I may just get bold and do it! =D

Like my friend Erin shared in her "bragging" post, I don't necessarily want to "brag" about my boys but I am overjoyed at some of their accomplishments recently! So I will share with you! Moose is doing wonderfully at school. We moved him to the afternoon classroom and his teacher said that his behavior problems that they saw in the morning have virtually disappeared. Great! Twice last week (once at school and once at Sunday School) his teachers told me that he shared with someone. What a sigh of relief that one is; sharing is so hard but to know that what I'm implementing at home is working (even the itsy bitsiest bit!) is a relief.  I've noticed that baby toys are most enjoyed by the older crowd. Moose is also reading! I got the sight word list that kindergarteners start off with from his teacher - he read them all for me this morning. Greater (movie review)

Sports movies are some of my favorite ones; even better if they are underdog stories! "Greater" is just that - a true underdog story about Brandon Bulsworth who could be called the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. The movie follows Bulsworth from the time he's a kid. His mother is raising he and his brother (who is quite a bit older; old enough to be mistaken for his dad, laughably). His brother gives him a kick in the pants when Brandon claims he wants to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Brandon was a heavy kid so no one really thought it would happen. However, Brandon worked as hard as he could and made it. Walked on the team and caught the attention of his coach who put some amazing work into this kid to help him become better. I love when coaches look at the heart of a player more than ability. This really is an amazing story, an amazing movie - full of inspiration and encouragement. Big A is forever telling me to not say certain things on the road. Don't call me dear. Don't gasp or shout; I'll think there's a deer. Although these are paraphrased (and he claims he's never said the first one), these are the basis for this tale. We went to the Husker game last night. Scratch that - we worked at the Husker game last night. We helped his aunt (and her church) sell backrests as a fundraiser. Big A has done this most of last year & all of this year so far. He loves it. You sell backrests until kickoff, then you watch the game, and pick up the rests after. You're there 90 minutes before game time and for about an hour or so after the game. And you sometimes get leftover food (Runzas and hotdogs and popcorn - please fine out what a Runza is for those of you who aren't from Nebraska....it's so yummy!).
