Aside from political support, I really like the Robertson family of the Duck Dynasty empire. They seem like real people who really love Jesus. This is not just true of the parents or grandparents, but of the younger generation including John Luke Robertson, author of "Young and Beardless: The Search for God, Purpose, and a Meaningful Life." Having been a fan of the television show, "Duck Dynasty," for several years, I'm well aware of John Luke and his new marriage and charisma. Have you seen the episode where he gets his wisdom teeth out? Hilarious. Anyway, back to his book, John Luke provides young readers (I believe this is more specified toward young men) a guide into how he has come to where he is in his life - not simply relying on the faith and fortune of his family, but pursuing his own relationship with Christ and business pursuits along with his wife, Mary Kate. How many parents are just overloaded with parenting books these days? I've been reading parenting book since before my children were born. Some have been excellent and some have been bad. "Strong and Kind" by Korie Robertson with Chrys Howard is excellent. image via BookLook Many parenting books have contradictory teaching methods. "Strong and Kind" does not even have a teaching method. It's basically a book telling us what we know: our kids need character! And we need to teach them (which means we really need to model it for them)! One of my favorite parts of the book is toward the end when Korie and Willie (who chimes in on every chapter of the book) discuss how differently they were raised. Willie's family life was more rough and fend for yourself while Korie's upbringing was more pampered. Moose was so sweet when he saw me reading "A Robertson Family Christmas" by Miss Kay Robertson. He thought Miss Kay had given me the book herself and so he wanted to write her a thank you note. So he did and I dug up her address and sent it to her. I hope she enjoys the sweetness of my boy (and Squirt saw Moose do this so he decided to write to Uncle Si - sent that one too; those post office people probably think I'm nuts). My kids also ask frequently to go to the Robertson's house/West Munroe/Louisiana. They think if we go, we'll go to their house. I tried to tell them we didn't know the Robertsons but they insist we do (because we watch the show). Sweet boys. I wasn't sure what to expect with Miss Kay's book. She's a little nutty on the show (love her dearly!). I was so pleasantly surprised by this book.
