The Gruffalo (DVD review & giveaway)

Today, I finally convinced my sons to watch The Gruffalo with me. They are little creatures of habit and love to watch the same things over and over again. I can gladly say that I now The Gruffalo will be added to their "List of Most Watched" shows.

I had never heard of the book "The Gruffalo" except through a blog post by my friend, Erin. So I was unsure of how I'd like this movie, having never read the book (and books are generally better than any movie!). But oh, this was precious. I really loved the animation - I don't know what kind it was but almost a claymation type. The story was so fun; here's a synopsis from NCircle Entertainment:

Synopsis
Based on the best-selling children’s book, The Gruffalo is a magical tale of a mouse who takes a stroll through the woods.  Encountering three predators who all wish to eat him, the adorable and confident mouse has to use his wits to survive.  He tells his predators that he is meeting a monster, which scares each of them, but what will mouse do when comes face to face with the terrible product of his imagination?

What a fun little tale! I couldn't tell if the narrator(s) were rabbits or squirrels. My favorite part of the movie was when the owl flew in to three trees. It just made me laugh out loud; and Moose too! Honestly this was just a wonderful show; not very long! And just so simply beautiful. Truly, this is a must-have DVD - and book. I hope to buy the book soon for my sons!

As the library's storylady, I spend a lot of time looking for terrific picture books - these are some of my favorites (now, aren't you sorry you asked?)

Of course, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child both by Julia Donaldson

Anything by Jan Thomas - all of her books are great and very interactive.

That Cat Can't Stay by Thad Krasnesky

My newest favorites are the Pete the Cat books - http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com/feature/petethecat/ has downloads for the songs and a link to the video.

Hey its Jess Gentert! I would love to enter your give away. It sounds like a super cute movie. Also perfect length for car rides and to watch during my sons nap time with my daughter. My email address is jessgentert@live.com. My daughters favorite book is called "The Old Blue Pickup". Its about a lil red headed girl that gets to have a day with her dad and the do all sorts of errands in his old blue truck. My husband drives and old blue truck and they love to do things together and go places in the old dirty thing. My son is just 16 months so his favorite book is one with just pictures. It's a my first farm book. It has all the animals and trucks/tractors one would find on a farm.

I love the Scrambled States of America! It's an awesome book for the introduction of U.S. with a little added humor and fun, in depth illustrations for the kids! Also I enjoy The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs and The Day the Teacher Went Bananas!
