The big birthday bash

Here's the deal. We're having a small birthday party for Tristan, so I'm making cupcakes & a cake. The theme of this party is the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The cupcakes will be (fairly) simple.
Frost some cupcakes yellow and use yellow Jelly Bellies to make them look like corncobs.



The hard part will be the cake. I bought a small cake pan to make a baby-sized cake. However, I want to frost it with the Nebraska "N" on it. I'd love to write Huskers like they do but I know that will NOT work. Any ideas on how to make this "N" turn out well?





I did think about making him a football-shaped cake, but I don't have a football-shaped pan.

Happy early birthday to the T man!

We had a football party for Shep's 2nd birthday. All I did was cut a square cake into the shape of a football (I froze the cake so it would cut better.)And did the same for his "little" cake.

For the "N" you could cut out the letter and trace it with a toothpick on the cake and then fill in the lines with frosting.

Like my friend Erin shared in her "bragging" post, I don't necessarily want to "brag" about my boys but I am overjoyed at some of their accomplishments recently! So I will share with you! Moose is doing wonderfully at school. We moved him to the afternoon classroom and his teacher said that his behavior problems that they saw in the morning have virtually disappeared. Great! Twice last week (once at school and once at Sunday School) his teachers told me that he shared with someone. Greater (movie review)

Sports movies are some of my favorite ones; even better if they are underdog stories! "Greater" is just that - a true underdog story about Brandon Bulsworth who could be called the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. The movie follows Bulsworth from the time he's a kid. His mother is raising he and his brother (who is quite a bit older; old enough to be mistaken for his dad, laughably). His brother gives him a kick in the pants when Brandon claims he wants to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Brandon was a heavy kid so no one really thought it would happen. However, Brandon worked as hard as he could and made it. Walked on the team and caught the attention of his coach who put some amazing work into this kid to help him become better. I love when coaches look at the heart of a player more than ability. This really is an amazing story, an amazing movie - full of inspiration and encouragement. We Choose Virtues (review & giveaway!)

I almost think I needed this Kids Kit from We Choose Virtues almost as much as my sons. I mean, check out this list: patience, kindness, obedience, diligence, forgiving, attentive, etc. I have such problems with patience and attentive (anyone else get distracted by stuff online?)! So I know that it's important to teach these virtues to my children, too (and learn alongside them).
