All the World's a Stage

"all the world's a stage"

You've all probably heard this quote from Shakespeare's "As You Like It," even if you've never read the play.  However, you (like myself) may not have ever heard this quote as it has been paralleled to the Christian faith. John Calvin said,

"all of creation is a theater for the display of God's glory."

Isn't that beautiful? Think of a play (or even a movie). God is the playwright, the director, the producer, the costumer, the make-up artist, the stage hand - He truly is the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end. He is even the central plot (although most stories are a lot like the movie Crash with many plots assembled together).

A pastor at our church wrote about this very thing in his sermon application notes. He also said it best with this: "thus, everything in our lives should be done for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). I am an old thespian - I acted a bit growing up and in high school. Nothing major (although I did hold a few leads) as I wasn't from anywhere major. But this application really speaks to me as that was a large passion for me. I loved the spotlight, the nerves, the memorization, the make-up and costumes. I loved being someone other than me.

Well, now my stage is my life. My role is mom, wife, friend, daughter. My make-up is very played down and my wardrobe is sometimes less than desired (haha). But my role is more vital. My role is the spreading of my faith. My lines are played out in the Word. Souls rest on the line.

What a privilege I have (you have) to tell others about the glory of God. His love, his mercy, his forgiveness. Truly...

all the world's a stage.

Beautiful! I was pondering that very same phrase as I read it last night and thinking about the beauty of that thought.

Oh, you are so right. Sometimes I forget that. {And I'm a former theatre kid!} We need to walk to the walk. Such a good way to remember it. Glad to meet you, btw. And thanks for the bday wishes.
That is a wonderful phrase. I can see how our roles outweigh our costumes...every.single.day!

Beautiful post! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Our boys are really similar in the age differences. I look forward to reading more of yours and seeing another mom going through things much like what I do. ~Jessica
