What is Memorial Day?

As far back as I remember, my family has celebrated Memorial Day by visiting graveyards. Placing flowers on loved ones that have passed on was what we did. Maybe your family does that, too.

However, many also take this day to remember those veterans who have given their lives in the line of duty. Many may go to memorials or services specifically for this reason.

I wanted to share a few websites I found with the history of Memorial Day.

Wikipedia
Memorial Day History
History.com

However you celebrate, take some time out of your day to learn the history behind this holiday (it is more than just another day for banks to be closed).

We go to the parade in our town and all wear our flag shirts. We talk about the many freedoms we have here in the good ole USA.

funny... we both used the same picture today.

we didn't live near family members that had passed away on my mom's side. and my dad's family all lived to be verrrrry old, and they were Amish. Amish have simple graves, and don't like "showy" things, such as the flowers. So, unfortunately, we did not get to put flowers on graves. But we did the parade thing and picnic/bbq thing and often times would talk about those who fought and died for our freedoms. I love this day.
