aw man!

I tried to participate in Mama Kat's Bathroom Concert Series for the Writer's Workshop today, but for some reason, I couldn't upload my video (it wasn't that great anyway). But do take the time to go over to Mama Kat's and maybe record your own Bathroom Concert.

So instead of participating in the other prompts (which were good but just didn't tickle my fancy), I decided to write a letter to a celebrity. Namely, Miley Cyrus.

Dear Miley,
I am glad to know that you are a Christian, that you know our Lord Jesus Christ. I recently read an interview of you in either USA Today or one of those inserts into my newspaper. You said some things about being a Christian that I think you need to think about.

No Christians don't live under a rock. We live in the real world, with real fashions (unfortunately). And no, you won't go to hell (her words) for wearing short shorts.

HOWEVER, Matthew 5:28-30 says "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

Short shorts, tight clothes, bra straps hanging out - all are tempting to the average teen boy (and too many adult males, too).

I'm not saying that you're not getting into heaven because you wear short shorts (our deeds have no power over whether or not we go to heaven after death; it is only by a faith and salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ). But we Christians still have a responsibility to live like Christ here on earth.

You are not only a role model to girls as Hannah Montana but you are a role model for Jesus Christ. Please dress accordingly because, despite the Vanity Fair and MySpace scandals, a lot of people look to you as an example of a Christian. It would be in good faith for you to do some soul searching (and cover up a bit).

Thanks,
S Club Mama

Ha! You know what is really interesting...she was on Ellen yesterday morning (I happen to get a good giggle from Ellen, despite not agreeing with her politics or her personal choices) and Miley was going on about how she supports gay marriage.

Interesting perspective from a Christian.

But, here I am judging and I suppose that isn't exactly right either.

Ps. Her bra straps were totally hanging out.

Ha! I like this.

In response to Happy's comment (sorry, I don't normally do this...)

I consider myself a Christian but also support gay marriage. To me, it is not a question of right or wrong. To me, it is a question of happiness. And gay people deserve the same happinesses we are privileged enough to enjoy. Of course, my thoughts on this could come from having the one openly gay man in a very judgmental town of 1200 as my brother.....

I do love Ellen. She's hilarious and seems very genuinely nice.

Totally agree! I thought she was some sweet girl and a total role model for younger girlies! That was until I saw her on some British award program (possible for the Queen - cant remember the name!) and I was shocked to see what she was wearing!! She really needs to think of her younger fans and what kinda message she is putting across!

I appreciate your post and agree that Miley Cyrus should pay attention to how she dresses... And although I believe that men have the power to look away, I think that the way we dress is a reflection of the respect we have for our God-given bodies.

An aside: I am a Christian who supports gay marriage and gay rights.
